Sea Land Processors (Fiji) Ltd Took Traceable Fresh Tuna Sashimi to The Seafood Expo Asia

September started with Sea Land Processors (Fiji) Ltd (part of the Sea Quest/Sea Land Group Of Companies) displaying traceable fresh tuna sashimi at the Seafood Expo Asia, in Hong Kong, 4th-6th September. Representatives from Sea Land Processors (Fiji) Ltd were excited to showcase a traced product and we were glad to be of service. TraSeable’s QR codes were displayed with the fresh tuna sashimi, for traceability enthusiasts at the Expo to scan.

WWF-NZ Blockchain Traced Tuna Project

There has been lot of hype these days around Blockchain applications. Blockchain has been identified as being useful for supply chain traceability that allows for transparency.

This transparency layer is enabled because each transaction is stored in a decentralised manner that anyone on the system can check and verify their accuracy. We continue our work on the WWF-NZ project, that is getting ‘Blockchain Traced’ Tuna to the New Zealand market.

Also in September, we sent out the first batch of tags and a tablet on a Solander (Pacific) Ltd vessel, as a training-of-the-sorts for the crew. There’s been quite a few lessons learned from this training exercise which has helped us improve our platform for data capture out at sea.

Unexpected delays in the arrival of our tags and labelling equipment, presented us with the opportunity to make these necessary changes. It also gave the crew and the processing team a chance to exercise and become aware of the additional task, before the first shipment of ‘Blockchain Traced’ Tuna is sent to New Zealand.

Electronic Applications and Authorisations

A 12 week trial for Electronic Applications and Authorisations has been in the works for some time now and we have been liaising with both industry and Fisheries. We believe that the outcome of this trial will showcase how it can improve efficiency and cut costs through online applications of permits and other authorisations.

Our last meeting with our Fisheries contact was promising and we are happy to work with the three fishing companies that have stepped forward to participate in this exercise and they are  Sea Quest (Fiji) Ltd, Solander (Pacific) Ltd and Hangton Pacific Co Ltd.

We have had our team gathering preliminary information and look forward to kick starting this 12 week trial that should begin in late October.
